Professor Emeritus Börje Forssell receives the IAIN Necho Award

At the general assembly of the International Association of Institutes of Navigation (IAIN) in November 2021, it was announced that Professor Emeritus Börje Forssell receives the IAIN Necho Award and also becomes honorary member of the IAIN.

Professor Börje Forssell is granted the award because of his significant contribution during 55 years to both research and education in navigation, and especially for his contributions to marine and air navigation and to the development of Galileo.

During 1983 to 2009 Börje Forssell was Professor in Telecommunication in the field of Navigation at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim, Norway.

Before that he first worked in the navigation industry in Sweden, then moved to Norway where he got his Ph.D. from the NTNU and also worked as a scientist with SINTEF.

After his retirement from the university, Börje worked voluntarily as secretary general of the NNF for many years. He has been active with the NNF since it was established in 1983; as a member of the board, chairman of the Election Board and as Secretary General.

The board of the NNF extends our sincere congratulations to Börje. The award is very well deserved and his contributions to the navigation community in Norway and internationally truly are significant.

The Necho award is granted to one person every three years for contributions to navigation in general, over a number of years, or for a special achievement. For more information visit the IAIN web site: http://www.iainav.org/iain-awards.html
