Upcoming NNF Webinars

22. 11

In December 2020 and 1Q 2021 a series of navigation related webinars will be held via zoom which will be open for public attendance.

2020:

NNF is happy to host a webinar entitled “PREPARE ships - smart positioning solutions for marine applications”

The talk will be given by Robert Rylander who is a researcher at RISE Research Institutes of Sweden.

The seminar will take place on Thursday December 10th at 15:00 Swedish/Norwegian time via Zoom (the link is available on the NNF web site).

The seminar is open for everybody interested in the topic.

Abstract:

PREPARE ships is a project about smart positioning solutions focused on developing and demonstrating a data fusion of different sensors and signal sources to enable a robust navigation application. The idea is that vessels with accurate positioning based on EGNSS, data and machine-learning should be able to predict future positions of nearby vessels. It will make use of RTK + VRS positioning and VDES to communicate corrections and ship to ship exchange of the predictor.

A recording of this webinar can be found here.

2021:

Wednesday January 13th at 15:00:

"Innovation Partnership for developing future support system for the Norwegian Coastal Administration Pilot Service"

Abstract: The Norwegian Coastal Administration’s pilot service contributes to safety at sea by providing the vessel’s crew with the necessary knowledge of local waters during voyages to and from Norwegian ports. In addition to the pilot’s professional skills and comprehensive local knowledge, support systems such as GNSS are used for this task. The systems are effective, but they are also subject to factors that can affect   their accuracy. Through this innovation partnership, the Norwegian Coastal Administration wishes to have support tools developed for the pilot service that compensate for lack of reliability and can warn the pilot of interference.

Thursday February 18th at 15:00

"SAR/Galileo: A Contribution to Cospas-Sarsat MEOSAR" the presentation is given by Igor Stojkovic who is a Principal Search and Rescue Engineer with the European Space Agency in Noordwijk, The Netherlands.

The following topics will be presented during the webinar: Outline of the Galileo Services with a focus on the SAR Services on Galileo: SAR/Galileo. The MEOSAR and its advantages to the SAR Community. The synergy of SAR with Navigation (GNSS), the SAR/Galileo space and ground infrastructure, the SAR Alert service and performance and the SAR Return Link service and performance. Also new services in the pipeline will be presented including Remote Beacon Activation, Two Way Communication, Distress Position Sharing, and Emergency Warning Service. The presentation will be followed by a short Q&A session.

Thursday March 11th at 15:00

“Real-time Precise Point Positioning in LEO”

The presentation is given by Javier Tegedor from Fugro. He is technical lead for the development of next generation Fugro satellite positioning services.

Abstract:

GPS/GNSS-based Precise Orbit Determination (POD) is a key technology for the success of many satellite missions, in applications such as Earth Observation, RF-geolocation or improved collision avoidance, for example. However, current standalone GNSS performance limits the achievable accuracy on-board. In order to overcome this limitation, GNSS data is typically post-processed in the ground for obtaining precise estimation of the satellite’s state vector. Now, thanks to Fugro’s SpaceStar™, it is possible to obtain sub-decimeter POD real-time on-board, using Precise Point Positioning technology and Fugro existing infrastructure for the delivery precise GNSS orbit/clock corrections to LEO satellites via L-band.
