NNF Master thesis prize winner webinars - 6 and 16 October 2025

11. 08

In October 2025 we are pleased to present a pair of webinars where the winners of the recent Master thesis prize competition will present their work.

Monday October 6th at 15:00 Swedish/Norwegian time:

Webinar with thesis prize winner first place Majed Imad on atmospheric effects on GNSS.

Abstract: The primary sources of atmospheric errors on satellite signals are the ionosphere and the troposphere. This presentation covers various tropospheric and ionospheric models and presents their performance results. We will also discuss the ionospheric layer and its effects in details before presenting a new ionospheric model. The new proposed model is a data-driven model and is it independent of any external atmospheric parameters, which enables it to be applied to any non-PNT satellite system, such as most LEO satellites.

Thursday October 16th at 15:00 Swedish/Norwegian time:

Webinar with thesis prize second place winner William Nordström on time synchronization with LTE base stations.

Abstract: Time synchronization is crucial for many applications and critical systems, e.g., power grid monitoring, financial systems and sensor data fusion. Currently, global navigation systems (GNSS) are the state-of-the-art to achieve synchronization in distributed sensor networks. The master's thesis and our continued work have explored alternative methods to GNSS, by utilizing signals of opportunity, specifically the long-term evolution (LTE) technology of cellular networks. The results from simulations and basic hardware testing shows comparable performance to GNSS-based time synchronization for good SNR conditions.
